american music is the third full-length cd by anaphylaxis. american music is a collection of tracks built from heavily processed sounds recorded at a laundromat, basketball games, and other sampled sounds. it is an aural representation of the united states of america at the end of the twentieth century. due to the nature of the sounds contained on this cd, it is not recommended for playback at excessive volume. jason coffman, anaphylaxis and anaphylactic shock recordings assume no responsibility for damage to listening equipment or hearing resulting from playing this cd at high volumes.
in february 2001, the DAM cd version of american music was released. it featured the exact same track listing as the other editions.
This album was reissued on cd (with bonus tracks) through Mannequin Oddio Media in March of 2003.
track listing:
- slowly
- a mournful, quiet piano piece.
- american tradition (remix)
- remix of a track originally done for the soundtracks for one-minute films project. sounds recorded at a women's basketball game.
- drowning
- sounds sampled from xuvetyn album by lovesliescrushing, thoroughly manipulated in Mixman Studio Pro.
- hybrid broadcast
- sounds recorded at a men's basketball game.
- school spirit
- the sounds of cheerleaders.
- mechanical decay
- sounds recorded at the local laundromat. old american devices still hammering away...
- feedback integration
- sounds sampled from Popular Favorites album by the Oblivians and Planet of the Wolves by Guitar Wolf. both from american labels, anyway.
- manipulate
- screaming fans, screaming coaches, the high-pitched whistle of an angry referee. more sounds from a men's basketball game.
- the last thousand seconds
- begins with the same mournful, quiet piano piece that is "slowly." gradually, more and more sounds become clear-- the piano plays backwards, slithering electronics, mounting volume... actually plays for 980 seconds, so as not to outstretch the attention span of the average american.
